Milkayngu Mununggurr is from the Djapu clan, from Wandawuy in North East Arnhemland, Australia - known as 'Milkay' for short. He was born in the small community of Yirrkala in North east Arnhemland, though his traditional homeland, Wandawuy is slightly further south from Yirrkala. He has been playing Yidaki in ceremony since his teenage years and has become one of most respected Yolngu players.

Milkay first became recognised worldwide as an outstanding Yidaki player through his early work as one of the original members of the Yolngu band 'Yothu Yindi'. In past years, Milkay has travelled all over the world with the band, demonstrating his skills at playing the Yidaki. Over more recent years, Milkay has been teaching along with Djalu' Gurruwiwi at the 'Yidaki Masterclass' held annually at the Garma festival in Gulkula, North east Arnhemland. Milkay is an exceptional Yidaki player and is an influence to players both within Yolngu culture as well as players more further afield.
