"Milkay Mununggurr - Hard Tongue Didgeridoo"

This new CD is a must for any Didgeridoo player interested in learning traditional Yolngu playing methods from North East Arnhemland.

The 'Hard Tongue' Style of of Yidaki playing or ngängarr-däl as it's typically referred to in Yolngu languages has proved to be one of the most difficult styles for Didgeridoo players to learn. The formation of sounds and techniques differ from those commonly used in more contemporary styles of Didgeridoo playing. To play the ngängarr-däl stlye, a basic understanding of specific tongue positions and vocalised patterns is required. Until now, very few non-Yolngu players have been lucky enough to become familiar with this style of playing.

This fantastic new CD has been carefully planned so that this style is as easy to learn as it could be. The different components have been broken down and are verbally described, vocalised or sung and then played through the Yidaki. They are demonstrated slow and fast to help encourage your practice. The sound of Milkay's breathing is also audible for your reference.

Even better, the CD is accompanied by a liner note booklet which outlines and illustrates the tongue positions and movements, so you'll also have a visual aid to help you learn using the diagrams.
